Jane’s Top Ten Dental Tips

    1. Brush at least twice a day using an extra soft toothbrush, thoroughly, for a minimum of three minutes before you go to bed and after breakfast and if you can brush your teeth after having your lunch.  Brush after consuming sweets.

    2. Use only a pea-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste (children who can not predictably spit should not be using any).

    3. Remember to rinse your mouth well with water after brushing everytime.

    4. Visit us, your partner in oral health care at least twice a year for your checkup and cleaning.  Visits may be recommended at a different interval.  Follow our recommendation.

    5. Do not ignore any dental pain or discomfort.

    6. Avoid sugar in coffee or tea.  Honey is no substitute.  Black or with milk is fine.

    7. Avoid pop and sugary fruit drinks in your diet.

    8. Avoid sticky foods like honey, toffee, fruit roll-ups, jelly beans, and all candy.

    9. Calcium is needed for strong teeth and bones.  Good sources are milk, yogurt, cheese.

    10. Vitamin C is needed for strong, healthy gums.  Fresh fruits, including oranges, apples, grapes, strawberries, watermelon, cherries, etc…  are excellent sources.
